ROLAND'S WOOD
Inlet Road, Kerikeri, Northland, New Zealand,
Roland Sanson past away in 1998 and left in his will, a plot of land, 8Ha on Inlet Rd to the community via Council.
It is located on Inlet Road near the 65K speed signs just before the road turns down the hill past Heron Hill Rd. there is car parking at the entrance, it is signposted, there is still much work to be done but this is being done mainly by Rotary members, supervised by John Graham, it was in the Rotary Garden Safari this October 09 and many visitors said it was the best they had seen !
Roland left the land for future generations to enjoy and in particular for dogs to enjoy as well as there owners.
The land has been subdivided into two 4 Ha blocks, after a court dispute which took seven years, between the beneficiaries of the will and his last wishes.
Roland had spent many years clearing and planting the land, mainly in English trees, oak and spruces etc
You are welcome to visit with your best pal, but make sure you clean up after him / her !
Iain Morrison set about getting a group together called 'Friends of Roland Wood' mainly from the local residents.
