Commercial centre of the District.

Te Whiringa o Manoko
KERIKERI DOMAIN PARK,
COBHAM ROAD
- Conceived in 1978
- Short listed for
Auckland’s Aotea Square water sculpture in 1979
- Boulder columnar
sculptures were developed by the sculptor in the early 70’s
- Some examples of
these are Entranceway Paihia, Gateway Auckland, rainbow Warrior memorial,
Matauri Bay
- The sculpturer has
produced over 100 similar designs worldwide.
- Symbolism – the
columns were inspired by the sculptor raised in Kerikeri, playing in the
boulder strewn river, the tall gum trees and giant kauri trees of Puketi
forest.
- This Kerikeri Water
Sculpture
- Te Whiringa o Manoko reflects how this land over a lifetime has
spoken to the artist, it is a celebration of the land.
- The cost for the
sculpture was donated by a benefactor of $500,000.
- The foundations and
water feed of $150,000 was paid for by Far North Councils development
contributions.
- The sculpture was
officially opened in May 2009.
